The album is capped off by the 7 1\/2 minute deep-fried, fuck-yeah, blues-eruption title track (“Messenger Pigeon”) that builds to a towering pyre of slide guitar that will shake the fillings right out of your teeth. The songs are world-weary and well-lived in; the playing is impeccable and effortless; and everything is fastened together by Leo’s unmistakeable vocal delivery.
