Tribulations, the essential second long-play album on Nudie Records from New York’s radical bard and versifier Adam Amram weaves nylon guitar, fuzz and wah-wah pedal steel, piano, bass, drums, with luscious three-part harmonies and a lonesome lead vocal.

From a Broadway loft beside the J train to the side alleys of Manhattan, Amram’s soulful country beat poetry chronicles the endeavor of reaching for love and connection in times of great tribulation. A record shaped by tension, release, and the turn of a cycle where garage rock spirit meets 70s soul, this is essential cosmic country storytelling creating modern American mythology.

"I spent the summer of 2025 in a heat wave in New York City, living on Broadway next to the J train, watching it roll past my window. I was writing slowly in my loft, trying to process everything in the air, what was coming through the news, the radio, and the shared weight people seemed to be carrying. There was a sense of tribulation everywhere, something you could feel and see. These songs became a way for me to sit with that and try to understand it without forcing an answer.

At the same time, there were moments of light. The sun still came through, people still smiled, and it reminded me that no cycle lasts forever. We are all part of something larger, whether we like it or not. These songs hold both sides of that feeling, the heaviness and the sense that it will eventually pass. I wrote and demoed them alone in my loft during that stretch of time.

On January 1, I brought the songs into the studio with a group of musicians I deeply trust. I presented everything fresh, without rehearsals, so the performances would come from instinct and first impression. That approach felt true to some of the records I’ve always loved, where great session players respond in real time and shape the music together. I also put that same trust in producer and engineer Hunter Davidsohn, who helped guide the process.

This record reflects the moment we’re living through without trying to spell it out. It’s not meant to preach, but to connect. If there’s anything at the center of it, it’s the idea that even under a heavy sky, things move, shift, and change. The cloud lifts, and the sun comes back around."
